Surgical Care
Our physicians utilize many non-operative medical techniques in treating their patients, including injections, casting and bracing and referrals for physical and occupational therapy. If you or your child should require surgery, our surgeons are trained in the latest procedures and advanced recovery treatment options. Your primary care provider or your child’s pediatrician may refer you to one of our orthopaedic surgeons, or you may elect to self-refer to a member of our team.
Pediatric Orthopaedics Care
Pediatric orthopaedists have additional academic training to learn the unique skeletal structure of infants, children and adolescents and the specialized treatments they require. Since children have growth plates, their fractures often need special care and attention to treatment. Most fractures can be treated without surgery, but they should still be monitored by a physician. Boys Town Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine specializes in the care and treatment for scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine). Depending on the severity of the condition, treatment can range from observation to bracing to surgery.
Pediatric orthopaedic problems can be the result of a trauma or accident, occur during growth or be present at birth. In addition to acute injury care (like broken bones or sprained joints), our physicians also provide long-term treatment and care for:
- Scoliosis
- Cerebral palsy
- Spina bifida
- Congenital anomalies
